Hospitality. Quality. Destination programs. These are three guiding pillars of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government. The McKenna School offers programs in the business, economics, political science, and criminology areas. Each of these programs is informed by these three principles.

Hospitality is about fostering a welcoming environment for everyone. One of the fundamental Benedictine Hallmarks is “hospitality,” and as a key McKenna pillar, this closely relates to the history and tradition of our Benedictine heritage. We welcome anyone who enters through our doors, and we strive to offer a learning environment where learners feel comfortable and work together in a community to grow their knowledge. This is fostered through small class sizes, encouraging dialogue, and getting to know students as individuals. By becoming a Bearcat, you become a Bearcat for life and open yourself to a network of loyal alumni, faculty, and staff who will always have your back.

Quality is about the experience that students will have with our programs. In the McKenna School, we strive for excellence. We offer the benefits of a large university, such as quality education, opportunities to travel abroad, and the ability to engage in experiential learning. However, because of our small size, we make these aspects more accessible to every learner who enrolls in the McKenna School. Students will have access to faculty experts who are academic leaders in their fields, former executives, and successful entrepreneurs. These faculty members are approachable, have open-door policies, and more than anything else, want to see our students succeed.

Destination programs are about uniqueness. To us, this answers the question, “What is different about our programs that no other school can replicate?” Of course, our Benedictine heritage and liberal arts approach to a Saint Vincent education is unique in and of itself. For example, we are one of few programs globally that focuses on SAP Business One®, an Enterprise Resource Planning System for small– to mid-sized businesses. Our Criminology research includes an emphasis on the opioid epidemic that creates real-world impact in our region and beyond. Our Sports Management program is influenced by our relationship with Steelers Training Camp that occurs on campus during the summer, and we are one of a few colleges with an airport located across the street. In the McKenna School, we build on our uniqueness through the programs we offer.

Thank you for your interest in the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government. We have a strong record in training students for professional leadership roles. Both the McKenna School and our students have strong futures ahead. I encourage you to learn more about us by visiting or contacting me at michael.urick@stvincent.edu.
