Informal resolution may be used to resolve a report of prohibited conduct. The purpose of the informal resolution process is to address the conduct which has been reported and place the parties in a position to pursue their academic and non-academic interests in a safe, respectful, and productive educational and working environment. The informal resolution process is a voluntary, remedies-based process designed to provide parties with an option to resolve disputes in a forum that is separate and distinct from the formal grievance processes.
A formal complaint is not required in order for the informal resolution process to be used to resolve a matter of reported prohibited conduct. For incidents involving a Saint Vincent student and an employee, informal resolution cannot be used.
Both parties must agree to participate in the informal resolution process, and the Title IX Coordinator may determine that its use is not appropriate for in some situations, especially in situations where it can reasonably be determined that doing so could present a risk of future harm.
The informal resolution process can be started at any time PRIOR to a determination being made under the investigation and hearing grievance procedures. At any time, either party may walk away from the informal resolution process. If a complaint has already been filed and the affected party wishes to continue with an investigation and hearing grievance procedures, they may do so. If a request for the investigation and hearing grievance procedures had not been made, the affected party may request the College move forward with that process.
