Saint Vincent College students, faculty recognized at 2025 Spring Honors Convocation

LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College presented awards to its faculty, administrators and graduating students during the 2025 Spring Honors Convocation Wednesday afternoon in the historic Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica.

Jonathan R. Petrie, C’05, chief financial officer for UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital and UPMC Mercy, delivered the convocation address.

Father Paul R. Taylor, O.S.B., C’87, S’91, College president, presented Azzia Berestecki, a middle grade education major from West Newton, with the 51st annual President’s Award, the College’s highest student honor. The award is given to the member of the graduating class who best embodies SVC’s Catholic, Benedictine and liberal arts values of academic achievement, leadership and community service.

Finalists for the President’s Award were Erin Brody, a theology and English double major from Homestead; Sarah Hartner, a digital art and media major from Irwin; Natalie Homison, a digital art and media major from Zelienople; and Aiden Jackson, a double business administration and theology major from Caroll, Ohio.

Faculty honorees were Dr. Adam Wood, assistant professor of engineering in the Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing, who won the Quentin Schaut Faculty Award; Dr. Matthew Fisher, professor of chemistry in the Boyer School, who won the Boniface Wimmer Faculty Award; and Dr. Jessica Harvey, associate professor of communication and media studies in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, who won the Student Government Association Faculty Award. Additionally, Jody Marsh, C’15, was presented with the Student Government Association Administrator Award.

Other awards included the Honorable Judge Bernard Scherer Award, which was presented to Deacon Michael Scanga; the John and Theresa Ragan Poetry Award, which was presented to Sarah K. Lazeski; the Class of 1968 Father Ronald Gorka Scholarship Award, which was presented to Reese Gadsby; and the Student Government Association Senior Awards, which were presented to Angelina M. Bucci, Jacob M. Devlin, Alison A. Mileca, Sabine S. Strickland, and Julianna M. Winter. Isabella R. Jolly; Caleb A. Spillar; and Jonah Weaver were the 2024-25 Elizabeth and Tom Andreoli Traveling Scholar awardees.

Awards for Academic Excellence in the Major Field of Study, which recognize graduating students with the highest grade-point average in each program of study, were awarded to the following:
