SVC to help transform Latrobe into a ‘poetry neighborhood’

LATROBE, PA – To celebrate National Poetry Month in April, Saint Vincent College and the Latrobe Art Center will transform downtown Latrobe into a “poetry neighborhood.”

Poems written by local residents will be displayed at storefronts and shared during events throughout Latrobe. The series is organized by Dr. Jeannine Pitas, assistant professor of English at Saint Vincent; Latrobe resident Bobbie Hineline; and Maureen Ceidro, a bereavement counselor for Independence Health.

  • Poetry Neighborhood opening celebration – 5 p.m. April 3 at the Latrobe Art Center.
  • An ekphrastic poetry (writing poems based on visual art) workshop – 5:30 p.m. April 8 at Latrobe Art Center
  • A grief poetry workshop – 6 p.m. April 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church
  • Read your favorite poem – 11 a.m. April 19 at Adams Memorial Library
  • A reading by Indran Amirthanayagam and winners of the Saint Vincent College Ragan Poetry Contest – 5 p.m. April 22 at the Verostko Center for the Arts within the Dale P. Latimer Library on the Saint Vincent College campus
  • Mystical poetry, a meditative experience – 6 p.m. April 24 at Eclectique Boutique
  • A nature poetry walk – 4 p.m. April 27 at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve
  • Poetry and music led by local musicians – 6 p.m. April 28 at Latrobe Art Center
